Auburn Heart Institute recruits Dr. Maxey-Jones as consultant

Auburn Heart Institute (AHI) at Auburn Community Hospital has recruited Dr. Courtney Maxey-Jones, MD, a critical care specialist based in Syracuse as a consultant. The strategic move aims to develop and expand AHI’s cardiac services, primarily by establishing and managing the Cardiac Advanced Care Unit (CACU). Dr. Maxey-Jones, a practicing cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist, will focus on creating a higher acuity unit for cardiac care that meets national standards and current practice guidelines.

Dr. Maxey-Jones boasts an impressive medical background, including a degree from New York University School of Medicine and residencies at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Cincinnati. Board certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, she has practiced at several Central New York hospitals, including Wilson Hospital, Oswego Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Health, where she served as the Medical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support / ECMO. She is also a member of multiple prestigious medical societies.

The partnership with Dr. Maxey-Jones signifies a significant step for AHI. “Her significant expertise and experience in critical care medicine will allow AHI to develop key clinical services,” said Dr. Ronald Kirshner, Chair & Medical Director at AHI. Dr. Maxey-Jones, too, expressed her enthusiasm about collaborating with the team at AHI and contributing to its development into a “destination cardiac center.”
