F.F. Thompson Hospital has been honored with the Gold Plus Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Achievement Award by the American Heart Association (AHA). The recognition comes in response to the hospital’s unwavering commitment to delivering appropriate stroke treatment in line with nationally recognized guidelines. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a significant cause of disability in the U.S, with prompt detection and treatment crucial to improving survival rates and reducing disability.
The Get With The Guidelines – Stroke program aims to enhance stroke care by endorsing adherence to the latest research- and evidence-based guidelines. “Thompson is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” stated Thomas W. Bonfiglio, Stroke/STEMI/Sepsis Quality Improvement Coordinator. He emphasized the program’s assistance in putting proven knowledge and guidelines into daily practice, which studies suggest can facilitate better patient recovery and survival.
The AHA recognized Thompson’s dedication to providing quality care for stroke patients, including following treatment guidelines and patient education. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities,” said Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chairperson of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. F.F. Thompson Hospital, an affiliate of UR Medicine, is a designated Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health.
