Ferrara Lumber fire investigation remains active: No answers on cause one-year later

Last week marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating fire that ripped through Ferrara Lumber on Bayard Street in Seneca Falls.

More than a dozen fire departments responded to the blaze, which destroyed the business that sat along Bayard for years.

Since, the site has been scraped clean. But many have wondered, “Where does the investigation stand?”

The answer, is apparently complex. While police in Seneca Falls say they remain the lead agency, and the investigation is open – there’s no imminent timeline on when it might be solved or cause identified.

Law enforcement officials in Seneca Falls say they hope leads can be developed down the road, but that is all.

So for now, the community is left without answers about what caused one of the largest fires in recent history.

Ferrara Lumber has since reopened and been operating normally on Rumsey Street.
