Donna Cottrill, 60, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night after being shot by her husband in their Elbridge home last month, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
The tragic incident, which occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on June 25 at 5335 Kingston Road, was initially reported by Sherman Cottrill, 79, who called 911 to declare he had shot his wife.
After the shooting, Sherman Cottrill was transported to Crouse Hospital in Syracuse due to chest pains. He was first taken into police custody at the hospital before being discharged. The Sheriff’s office subsequently charged him with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
The Elbridge Town Court set Cottrill’s bail at $250,000 cash or a $500,000 bail bond on June 26, with records showing he was released the following day.
