The Excelsior Pass app, launched by New York State in March 2021 to track people’s COVID-19 vaccination status, is set to shut down on July 28.
The app, which aimed to quickly verify users’ vaccine updates, has seen scarce use and has been costing the state a minimum of $200,000 per month to maintain.
Given the limited usage and high maintenance cost, state officials have opted to close down the app by the end of July.
The move comes as the state continues to reassess its pandemic response measures amid changing COVID-19 dynamics.
