Wayne County’s EMS service is officially up-and-running.
Over the weekend, Wayne County welcomed a new era of emergency medical services as its own EMS agency officially became operational.
The launch brings to a close the five-decade-long service of Lyons Ambulance, too.
The county has purchased two ambulances from Lyons and is currently awaiting the delivery of additional units.
While the county’s EMS headquarters are under construction, operations will be temporarily housed at the former Lyons Ambulance location.
The establishment of Wayne County EMS is in response to a 2020 report by Fitch and Associates revealing a stagnant average response time of 21 minutes over 11 years, deemed unacceptable by modern EMS standards.
