Rising Inflation Sparks Calls for Higher Subsidies in Green Energy Sector in New York

In the face of rising inflation, two groups representing green energy developers in New York State have filed requests to the Public Service Commission for increased payments in the form of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).

The Alliance for Clean Energy NY and Clean Path NY, which includes multiple wind and solar projects, as well as a 1,300-megawatt power transmission line, are seeking higher subsidies to cover escalating construction costs for new green power sources.

The Alliance for Clean Energy has warned that without increased REC prices, many green energy projects that secured contracts since 2016 will fail to reach completion.
