Cayuga Health Introduces Patient Directed Visitation at Schuyler Hospital and Cayuga Medical Center

Cayuga Health has introduced a new initiative, Patient Directed Visitation, at Schuyler Hospital and Cayuga Medical Center.

This program is designed to prioritize patients’ preferences and healthcare needs by allowing them to choose their visitors and the timing of visits while admitted to the hospital. This aligns with Cayuga Health’s commitment to person-centered care initiatives, bolstering their aim to promote individualized patient care.

Patient Directed Visitation aims to enhance the patient’s healing process, as stated by Naph’tali Edge, Chief Nursing Officer, Cayuga Health. The program is expected to strike a balance between patients’ need for the support of family and friends and their need for rest and privacy, contributing to a more comfortable and conducive healing environment.

The initiative is touted to have multiple benefits, including reducing patient anxiety, promoting seamless care transition, fostering trust between hospital caregivers and family caregivers, and enabling more effective communication between patients, their loved ones, and hospital staff. Overall, the initiative seeks to create a more patient-centric environment that takes into consideration individual needs and preferences.
