A community forum is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Ithaca, focusing on bolstering the relationship between law enforcement and community members while emphasizing diversity within the city’s police department.
Discussions surrounding community policing and the reimagining of public safety will also be a part of the forum’s agenda.
The forum has been organized with the help of the Ithaca Police Benevolent Association, NYS AFL-CIO Social Justice Taskforce, Southside Community Center, and various local entities. The NYS AFL-CIO Social Justice Taskforce, established in August 2020, serves as a platform for honest dialogue and meaningful change towards racial justice. The event aims to foster healthy dialogue among community members, community-based organizations, law enforcement, and labor, according to organizers.
The forum will kick-off at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. at the Southside Community Center on South Plain Street.
