Yankees snap four-game skid with win over Mariners

The New York Yankees (40-33) snapped a four-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners (35-36) in the series opener on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

All of New York’s offense came in the first two innings. Anthony Rizzo opened the scoring with a two-out RBI double in the first. He finished with a three-hit night. Billy McKinney added to the lead in the second with a long two-run homer, his second of the season.

The Yankees were able to hold the lead over the final seven innings, thanks to Gerrit Cole’s dominant outing and Clay Holmes recording the final five outs, picking up his ninth save.

Cole allowed just one run on four hits over 7 1/3 innings while striking out eight. The right-hander improved to 8-1 on the season.
