James Karcz, previously serving as an interim principal at Waterloo High School, has officially been appointed as the school’s principal.
Karcz stepped in as interim principal following the retirement of Mary Thomas-Madonna in April.

A seasoned educator with advanced degrees from SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oswego, Karcz has experience ranging from college basketball coaching to a 13-year teaching stint in the Syracuse City School District.
Karcz, who made a transition from his role as an assistant principal and athletic director in the Pulaski School District in Oswego County to Waterloo in 2022, expressed his excitement for the promotion.
He expressed gratitude to Superintendent Bavis and the school board for this opportunity to contribute to the Waterloo Central School District.
