Finger Lakes will have hazy skies thanks to Canadian wildfire smoke on Sunday, but you won’t smell it

Did you notice a haze in the air on Saturday?

If so, you’re not alone. While most in the Finger Lakes region saw hazy sun during the late-afternoon hours caused by wildfire smoke in Canada – it didn’t cause air quality issues like we saw last week.

That said, air quality levels did reach concerning levels for ‘sensitive groups’.

What does AirNow say about that classification?

People with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens – take any of these steps to reduce your exposure:

  • Choose less strenuous activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard.
  • Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
  • Be active outdoors when air quality is better.

Everyone else: Enjoy your outdoor activities.

So, what’s the forecast for Father’s Day?

Conditions will be pristine, with highs in the mid-70s for most. While there will be some smoke aloft creating hazy skies during the afternoon – there won’t be any smoke observed at the lower levels.

Air Quality will also remain favorable for outdoor activity for nearly all groups of people.
