Skaneateles, Victor girls capture state titles

Two local girls lacrosse teams captured state titles on Saturday morning.

The Skaneateles Lakers took down Bronxville 11-6 in the NYS Class D Final, while the Victor Blue Devils edged Garden City 8-6 in the NYS Class B Final.

Skaneateles, who won its fifth state title since 2002, was led by Bella Brogan and Camryn Calabro, who each sniped three goals. Julia O’Connor scored twice, while Paige Willard netted a goal and added a game-high six assists. Emily Evans made five saves in goal.

Victor won its second straight title in comeback fashion. The Blue Devils fell behind early, tied the game before the end of the first half, grabbed the lead in the second half, and never looked back. Devin Livington scored a game-high four goals, while Allie Pisano chipped in two.

The Victor boys will try to do the same thing on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. when they take on Garden City in the NYS Class B Final.
