The New York state appellate court is examining an appeal by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) to redraw the state’s congressional districts.
The appeal was heard yesterday, challenging a lower court’s dismissal of the DCCC’s lawsuit against the current district boundaries that were court-drawn after the state legislature produced boundaries favoring Democrats.
Should the Democrats emerge successful from the appeal, the state’s redistricting commission could redraw districts in their favor.
This development could potentially overturn the advantage that enabled Republicans to gain overall control of the House of Representatives in the previous election.
