The dog, now known as Ash, was abandoned on the side of the road and found in critical condition. Despite efforts to save Ash’s life – the dog succumbed to those injuries.
After an extensive investigation, the owners, Mackenzie Clarke, 21, and Isaiah Dishaw, 19, of Newark were arrested and now face felony charges.
They claimed the dog became ill the night before and after attempting to bring the dog to Humane Society, which was allegedly closed when they tried, and placed the dog alongside the road.
Clarke and Dishaw were charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and animal abandonment. Clarke was also charged with falsely reporting an incident.
The charges will be answered at a later date.
