In a party-line vote, the Auburn City Council gave the green light to the 2023-24 budget, amounting to $45,117,898.
This figure, passed 4-1 at Thursday’s meeting, shows a slight .06% drop from the existing year’s budget.
However, it also introduces a 2.29% tax levy increase, equating to approximately $292,000. Councilor Timothy Locastro, the council’s lone Republican, voiced his opposition to the tax hike, leading to his dissenting vote.
The budget tackles deficits in solid waste, water, and sewer funds. A public budget hearing was held on May 18.
