The Ontario County Humane Society says the dog that was found abandoned on Stryker Road in Phelps has succumbed to his injuries.
After being taken into custody by the Humane Society, the dog was transported to a veterinarians office on June 1.
Officials say the dog didn’t respond to any of the treatments they attempted.
The Ontario County Humane Society and Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its joint-investigation into how the dog wound up on Stryker Road.
“We continue to thank the public for your generosity and assistance in this incident,” the Humane Society added in a statement.

The Ontario County Humane Society and Ontario County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a dog was found abandoned and in critical condition along Stryker Road.
Around 8:30 a.m. the dog was found on the Phelps road. Initial reports indicated that the dog was dead and wrapped in a blanket.
However, first responders found the dog was still alive. After being transported to a local vet, the male dog remained in critical condition.
It’s unclear who owns the dog. At this point both agencies are investigating the abandonment.
