Newly disclosed emails suggest that the office of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo allegedly used state employees and resources to help write his COVID-19 book, “An American Crisis,” during the peak of the pandemic.
Cuomo reportedly received $5.1 million for the book, a payment state ethics panels are attempting to reclaim.
The emails, released by The Empire Center through Freedom of Information requests, reportedly show state-paid speechwriters exchanging ideas related to the book project as early as March 2020.
The emails revealed conversations between state-employed speechwriters Thomas Topousis and Jamie Malanowski, and top Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa, discussing a narrative detailing the Executive Chamber’s response to the pandemic.
