The Steuben County Legislature has received a $5.8 million grant from New York State, intended to strengthen emergency response communications within the county and its neighbors, Allegany, Chemung, and Schuyler.

The investment is set to address existing communication hurdles facing these emergency agencies, enhancing coordination and response capabilities across the four-county area.

In related news, an agreement has been reached between the Sheriffs’ Offices of Steuben and Schuyler counties.

This pact facilitates the provision of “special detail deputies” by the Steuben County Sheriff to Schuyler County during Watkins Glen’s racing season. This collaborative move aims to ensure the delivery of mutual aid on a voluntary basis, reinforcing the region’s safety during major events.
