The New York Mets (27-26) continued their road trip on Saturday night at Coors Field and fell 10-7 to the Colorado Rockies (23-30) in a game filled with lots of offense.
New York trailed 6-0 after three innings but clawed their way back and took a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh before giving it right back in the bottom of the frame and eventually losing.
Justin Verlander got lit up for the second time in three starts, allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings. Jeff Brigham and Drew Smith each surrendered two runs in relief.
Francisco Alvarez crushed a three-run homer to lead the offense. His seventh home run of the season tied the game at six. Pete Alonso crushed his Major League-leading 20th home run. Starling Marte added a pair of RBIs, while Brett Baty chipped in an RBI.
The Mets will try to win the series on Sunday at 3:10 with Tylor Megill on the bump.
