A groundbreaking ceremony marked the initiation of a $4.3 million renovation project at the 52-year-old Geneva YMCA on Thursday.
Despite the extensive construction, the YMCA is slated to remain operational throughout the 15-18 month period of the project, named “Building What Matters”.
The funding for this significant upgrade includes a generous $2.5 million contribution from the Brenda & Dave Rickey Foundation.
The project will facilitate the addition of 10,000 square feet of new space, which will accommodate a two-story wellness center, group exercise studio, chronic disease prevention center, an all-age lounge, and an expanded childcare center. The plan also calls for locker room updates, a gymnasium floor replacement, and an extension of the welcome center.
