After just three games, Gary Sanchez’s time with the New York Mets has ended.
The club designated the veteran catcher for assignment to make room for Tomás Nido, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list before Thursday’s series finale against the Chicago Cubs.
Sanchez went 1-for-6 with a run batted in. He joined the organization earlier in May after being released by the San Francisco Giants.
This means Francisco Alvarez will remain on the roster. The 21-year-old has been red-hot at the plate, hitting .318/.423/.773 with three home runs and seven RBIs over the last seven games.
