The New York Mets (25-25) dropped their second-straight game to the Chicago Cubs (22-26) on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field with a 4-2 loss.
Outside of Francisco Alvarez’s two-run homer in the third inning, the Mets offense was silenced by former Met Marcus Stroman, who threw eight innings. Alvarez had two of the team’s four hits.
Kodai Senga allowed three runs on six hits over five innings while striking out six. The righty also walked a career-high five batters.
Drew Smith surrendered a run over an inning of work in relief, while Brooks Raley and Jeff Brigham each fired a scoreless frame.
The Mets will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Thursday. Carlos Carrasco will take the ball for New York. The first pitch is set for 7:40 p.m.
