Emergency services, including the Trumansburg Fire Department, Trumansburg Ambulance, and New York State Police, were mobilized to Taughannock Falls State Park on Tuesday following a report of a potential drowning.
Upon arrival at approximately 4:30 pm, rescuers found three individuals near the base of the falls, with one already having been pulled from the water and treated by Trumansburg EMS.
A helicopter from LifeNet 7-12, stationed in Seneca Falls, was dispatched to the park to facilitate the transfer of the treated individual.
The New York State Park Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office also provided support at the scene. In the wake of the incident, the Trumansburg Fire Department issued a reminder about the inherent risks of swimming outside of designated areas without lifeguard supervision, emphasizing that such practices could quickly turn fatal without the necessary precautions.
