New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that applications are now being accepted for the Excelsior Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The Excelsior Scholarship, which is managed by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, enables eligible full-time students to attend two-year or four-year SUNY or CUNY colleges tuition-free. Governor Hochul underlined the importance of the program in affording access to affordable higher education for thousands of middle and lower-income New Yorkers, especially during these times of growing economic disparities.
Students from households with adjusted gross incomes of up to $125,000 are eligible for the scholarship. To qualify, students must plan to attend a SUNY or CUNY college, complete 30 credits per year toward their chosen program of study, and be on track to graduate within a specific timeframe – two years for an associate degree and four years for a bachelor’s degree.
The scholarship has been lauded as a testament to New York’s commitment to making college more accessible to all students, regardless of their economic background. The application process will remain open until August 31, 2023.
