Aaron Judge crushed a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning before Anthony Volpe delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly in the tenth as the New York Yankees (30-20) picked up a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles (31-17) in the series opener on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
New York trailed 4-0 in the first 3 1/2 innings and 5-4 entering the bottom of the ninth before securing the come-from-behind win.
Harrison Bader smacked his fifth home run of the season earlier in the game and provided a sacrifice fly. Anthony Rizzo ripped a run-scoring double, while DJ LeMahieu added an RBI single.
Gerrit Cole struggled on the mound, allowing five runs on six hits over five innings while walking three and striking out two. The right-hander also became the third-fastest pitcher in Major League history to record his 2,000th strikeout.
