State cites Auburn nursing home for nurse sleeping on the job

The New York State Department of Health has issued citations to Auburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following an incident involving a sleeping nurse, which garnered attention after a video of the event went viral.

The center was cited for neglecting 37 residents and administrative inefficiencies, according to a report released by the department and first published by The Citizen. The video, which has been viewed more than 2.2 million times since its release, showed a nurse, whose name has not been disclosed, apparently asleep on her feet.

The nurse has since been dismissed from the center, as confirmed by its administrator, Judson MacCaull.

The health department report documented a series of incidents involving the same nurse, including several instances of appearing drowsy, arriving late, and spending extensive time in the bathroom or her car during her shifts. Despite these behaviors, it was noted that there was insufficient communication between administration, supervisors, and staff about the escalating issues.
