In a significant move towards the redevelopment of the long-closed Bombardier plant, Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that the city of Auburn will receive an $8.5 million state grant.

The funding, provided through the Restore NY Communities Initiative, is part of an effort to encourage neighborhood growth and community development by renovating blighted structures.

City Manager Jeff Dygert believes that the financial aid, along with the commitment of Alstom, the current property owner, could expedite the search for an appropriate tenant for the facility.

One promising prospect for the factory could be its potential role in supporting Micron’s significant investment in central New York.
