The New York Mets (25-24) fell into an early hole, and the offense struggled in a 7-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs (21-26) on Tuesday night in the series opener at Wrigley Field.
Pete Alonso drove in both runs with his 18th home run of the season and an RBI groundout. Aside from that, New York couldn’t get much going as they went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left six on base. Brandon Nimmo had three of the team’s six hits.
Tylor Megill struggled on the mound again, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. The righty now has a 5.29 ERA over his last seven starts.
The Mets will try to get back in the win column on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. Kodai Senga will take the ball for New York.
