Michael G. Burchard, a 44-year-old from Elmira was charged with attempted murder after police responded to a distress call and found two individuals with multiple wounds.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in a residence on the 200 block of West Chemung Place. Upon arrival, officers found the victims on the house’s front porch and were informed that the suspect was still inside the home, armed with a knife.
Burchard was subsequently apprehended peacefully after police negotiations resulted in his surrender. Both victims were transported to local hospitals, with their recovery expected, according to authorities.
The Elmira Police Department is encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to reach out. They stated that due to certain circumstances, Burchard’s mugshot is currently unavailable but will be released in due course.
