Two Bath residents, Tyra Green and Matthew Machuga, both aged 24, were apprehended by police on Tuesday for allegedly failing to provide adequate care for a one-year-old dog under their supervision.
According to Bath Police, the pair were arrested on May 16 and face charges of Overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance, a Class A Misdemeanor. It’s claimed that the duo did not provide the dog with sufficient food or veterinary care.
The case stems from an initial incident on May 6, where a village officer observed the dog in a visibly emaciated state while Green and Machuga were walking it on West Morris Street, leading to an investigation.
Following a veterinary examination, the dog, a one-year-old mixed-breed male, was found to be severely malnourished, scoring a mere 2.5-3 out of nine on the Purina scale. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Green and Machuga, and the dog was seized from their residence by order of the Bath Village Court and given over to authorities for appropriate care.
