Mets edge MLB-best Rays to win first series since April

The New York Mets (22-23) won back-to-back games on Thursday afternoon at Citi Field for the first time since April 20-21 and secured their first series win in a month with a 3-2 victory over the Major League-leading Tampa Bay Rays (32-13).

New York led 2-1 going into the sixth inning until Josh Lowe crushed a game-tying solo home run off Tylor Megill. However, the Mets quickly responded in the bottom of the frame as Tommy Pham singled home the go-ahead run, and the Mets bullpen locked it down.

Pete Alonso crushed his 16th home run earlier in the game, and Brett Baty added an RBI groundout.

Megill surrendered both runs on four hits over six innings while walking one and striking out four.

The Mets will stay home and begin a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday at 7:10 p.m.
