Anthony J. Annucci, the Acting Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), will retire this summer after over four decades of state service.
Annucci, who has been with the department for 38 years and spent the last decade at its helm, will officially leave his office on June 9, with his retirement taking effect on August 11.
Upon Annucci’s departure, operational oversight of the DOCCS will fall to Executive Deputy Commissioner Daniel F. Martuscello III.
As the DOCCS Commissioner is a member of the governor’s cabinet, Governor Kathy Hochul will be responsible for nominating Annucci’s successor. This nominee will then be either appointed or rejected by state senators following a hearing at a future date.
