Brett Heffner, the man responsible for the brutal murder of a 26-year-old woman in Corning last August, was handed a life sentence on Tuesday.
Heffner, 29, admitted to the murder of Keli Collins and was subsequently sentenced to serve a minimum of 25 years to life imprisonment.
He and Collins knew each other, residing in the same apartment complex.
An autopsy revealed Collins was strangled and sexually assaulted prior to her death. After the heinous act, Heffner stole Collins’ car.
Later that same night, he was apprehended when the stolen vehicle was pulled over in Hornell.
