Ithaca man avoids serious injury after car rolls several times in Rt. 89 crash in Covert

Authorities say an Ithaca man sustained minor injuries after an accident in the town of Covert during the early morning hours on Saturday.

In a news release from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to the area of State Route 89 and Kingtown Road in Covert on May 13 around 12:10 a.m. for a one-car rollover accident.

Deputies say Michael Polk, 28, of Ithaca was traveling south on Route 89 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert before rolling several times.

Trumansburg Ambulance responded and transported Polk to the Cayuga MEdical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the accident was determined to be driver inattention. Polk was issued traffic tickets and the vehicle was a total loss.

The Trumansburg Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
