New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer will not make his scheduled start Tuesday vs. the Cincinnati Reds due to neck spasms, the club announced.

Scherzer was not placed on the injured list and is considered day-to-day.

Lefty David Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and will start in his place. Peterson made six starts with the Mets earlier this season, posting a 7.34 ERA in 30 2/3 innings.

Scherzer, 38, owns a 5.56 ERA over 22 2/3 innings this season.
