The City of Auburn is set to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure as City Council approved $80,288 in grant funding from New York State for the installation of three new charging stations downtown. Each station will feature two charging points, allowing up to six vehicles to charge simultaneously.
The city currently has two public charging stations located in the parking garage, which see significant use, according to City Clerk Chuck Mason. The additional stations are expected to bolster tourism by providing increased charging options for visitors traveling in electric vehicles.
Mason told Finger Lakes News Radio that the new charging stations will make Auburn a more attractive destination for tourists who rely on publicly available chargers. The city aims to have the stations installed in the Dill Street parking lot by the end of the year.
