Former Ontario County Deputy Clerk Heidi Barend Guerrie is running for the top job.
She will be running as a Democrat in the primary election after receiving more than 1,100 signatures during that process.
She worked in the clerk’s office from 1997 until 2022 and was appointed deputy clerk overseeing the DMV in 2012.
“I Have spent my entire career serving the residents of Ontario County,” she said in a news release. “Public service is my passion.”
Her father, Ray Barend, served as Bristol Town Supervisor and eventually took on the role of chairman of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors.
If elected, Barend Guerrie hopes to rebuild the morale in DMV and clerk’s office. “Many of the current employees have encouraged my run for office and I feel I have the experience and working relationship with the Board of Supervisors to secure the resources and support they need to run the offices effectively.”
She also plans to research the possibility of restoring the DMV office in Geneva and analyzing a satellite location in Victor.
