Yankees relief pitcher Jonathan Loáisiga to undergo surgery

The injuries continue to pile up for the New York Yankees.

On Monday, manager Aaron Boone provided several injury updates on players, including Jonathan Loáisiga, who will undergo surgery on Tuesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Loáisiga will be shut down from throwing for three to six weeks and likely won’t pitch at the big-league level until August or September, Boone said.

The 28-year-old has been a big piece in the Yankees bullpen over the last several seasons. Since 2020, Loáisiga has tossed 145 innings while posting a 3.04 ERA and striking out 21.5% of batters faced.

New York’s bullpen is already without Tommy Kahnle, Lou Trivino, and Scott Effross.
