Canandaigua man listed in stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital: He’s been ticketed for menacing

New York State Police have identified the person shot after officers were called to the 7-Eleven in Canandaigua on Monday.
The updated release from state police and the Canandaigua Police Department identified the individual shot as 34-year-old Thomas Johnson, of Canandaigua.
Police restated that when officers on-scene attempted to interview him, he displayed what appeared to be a handgun in his front jacket pocket. Officers then gave verbal commands for him to show his hands, which were ignored.
He began walking toward South Main Street, and deployed tasers without effect. While officers attempted to gain verbal compliance, Johnson turned toward them, removed what officers believed was a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at an officer.
That’s when responding officers from the Canandaigua Police Department discharged their firearm- striking Johnson.
He’s currently listed in stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
The weapon in Johnson’s possession was confirmed to be an Airsoft pistol after investigation at the scene. He was issued an appearance ticket for second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.
Incident at gas station led to shooting after suspect displayed what appeared to be a gun

On Monday at approximately 1:29 p.m. officers from the Canandaigua Police Department were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person at the 7-Eleven gas station located at 484 S. Main St in the city of Canandaigua.
Upon arrival, officers encountered an uncooperative individual who displayed what appeared to be a firearm. The subject ignored the officers’ commands, prompting officers to discharge their taser. As the subject attempted to flee the scene, they pointed the firearm at the officers.
In response, a member of the Canandaigua Police Department discharged their firearm hitting the person.
The person was rendered aid at the scene before being airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital. No officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation is being handled by the New York State Police, Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and Canandaigua Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.
Major police investigation underway: Reported shooting in area of S. Main, Parish streets

Early reports indicate that there was a shooting during the afternoon in the city of Canandaigua.
A large police presence was reported, and according to scanner traffic and witnesses in the area- a person was shot in the area of South Main and Parish streets.
Residents were being advised to avoid the area for the time being.
Multiple agencies from Ontario County were on-scene.
