Aaron Boone pulled Domingo Germán at 88 pitches with one out in the ninth inning, and Clay Holmes blew a save as the New York Yankees (15-15) fell to the Cleveland Guardians (14-15), 3-2, on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
With the loss, New York has dropped four straight and moved into last place in the American League East.
Both of the Yankees’ runs came in the third inning. Jose Trevino crushed a 425-foot home run, and DJ LeMahieu ripped a two-out RBI single. LeMahieu had two of the team’s six hits.
The Yankees will try to snap this four-game skid on Tuesday with Gerrit Cole on the mound, who is looking to improve to 6-0 on the season. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
