Why are pool noodles allowed to be sold if NYS has a styrofoam ban?

The state has a ban on Styrofoam and as spring arrives that has many asking a unique question:

Will that have an impact on pool noodles?

News10NBC recently looked into this as part of a ‘Good Question’ segment. In 2020, New York State announced a ban on polystyrene foam, which is commonly known as Styrofoam.

Restaurants who used polystyrene takeout containers were most notably impacted by it.

The state confirmed that pool noodles are not covered under the ban. While the ban applies to certain items- there are notable exceptions.

In this case, pool toys are not included.
