Pete Alonso smacked his Major League-leading tenth home run of the season, and Joey Lucchesi fired seven scoreless innings as the New York Mets (14-7) blanked the San Francisco Giants (6-13) 7-0 on Friday night at Oracle Park.
Lucchesi, who made his first big-league start in nearly two years, struck out seven batters and allowed just four hits over seven dominant innings.
Alonso’s homer, a two-run shot, came in the fifth inning to extend New York’s lead. He collected two more RBIs later in the game when he singled home a pair of runs. With another four RBI night, Alonso passed Daniel Murphy to move into 12th place on the Mets’ all-time RBI list.
Luis Guillorme and Daniel Vogelbach also contributed on the offensive side with run-scoring singles, while Brandon Nimmo picked up two more hits.
The Mets will try to win the series on Saturday with left-hander David Peterson on the bump. The first pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m.
