Police report that a Bath man, arrested eight times since last July, fled from a hospital’s emergency room in an attempt to escape pending felony charges.
Bath Police initially arrested Derrick Mack-Vasquez, 29, during an investigation on Thursday night at an East William Street apartment. Mack-Vasquez allegedly hid between the toilet and a wall after police discovered he was in the presence of the protected party of an active stay-away order of protection. He resisted arrest and had to be physically removed from his hiding place.
While in police custody, Mack-Vasquez experienced a medical event and was taken to Ira Davenport Hospital for treatment. On Thursday night, just before 10 pm, he fled from the hospital on foot before being discharged. Police later found him hiding under brush in nearby woods.
Mack-Vasquez was charged with felony criminal contempt and arraigned at Steuben County Jail. Some of his previous arrests included charges of escaping arrest and assaulting a police officer.
