A local teen has been charged after falsely reporting an incident in the Union Springs Central School District.
According to a news release from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, investigators received a report of an image depicting what appeared to be firearms in reference to a student coming to school the next day.
A local resident received the image, and then reported it to law enforcement in Cayuga County.
The threat was deemed not credible and the suspect, who was not identified due to age, was charged with falsely reporting an incident.
They will appear in Cayuga County Family Court at a later date to answer the charge.
Law enforcement reminded the community following the incident that they investigate all matters as if they are credible threats until proven otherwise.
