Dead & Company, a band that includes former members of the Grateful Dead, will perform an intimate concert on May 8, 2023, at the same venue and date as the Grateful Dead’s legendary show at Cornell in 1977. VIP packages, which included hotel rooms, receptions, and guaranteed concert seats, quickly sold out after ticket lotteries launched in early March. However, fans still have several options to experience the show, including pay-per-view video, free audio streams, a SiriusXM broadcast, and a local livestream event at the State Theatre in Downtown Ithaca.
The concert, called “5.8.23,” is a fundraising event, with proceeds benefiting the Recording Academy’s MusiCares organization and Cornell University’s 2030 Project. Dead & Company has teamed up with Fandiem to offer a sweepstakes for a chance to win a VIP package, including two VIP pit tickets, round trip travel, hotel accommodations, and a limited signed show poster.
The State Theatre of Ithaca announced that they will host a livestream event on their big screen, with tickets priced at $35 for the general public and special tickets for Cornell alumni. Ticket sales from the State Theatre event will also support MusiCares and Cornell’s 2030 Project.
The concert aims to recreate the magical atmosphere of the Grateful Dead’s 1977 performance, which has become an important part of the band’s history. The show will not only bring the music to a new generation of fans but also support vital causes within the music industry and the fight against climate change.
