New details have been released regarding the accident that shut down State Route 89 for several hours on Wednesday.
The Seneca Falls Police Department, EMTs from North Seneca Ambulance and Seneca Falls Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Route 89 south of the entrance to the Cayuga Lake State Park in the Town of Seneca Falls early Wednesday morning.
Upon arrival, first responders located one victim who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified. The victim is believed to be the sole occupant of the vehicle.
SFFD personnel assisted the police with shutting down the roadway between Noble Road and State Park entrance intersections with Route 89. Members from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office also responded and assisted at the scene with the investigation.

Traffic alert: Rt. 89 closed in Seneca Falls due to accident
According to a pair of traffic alerts that went out Wednesday morning a stretch of State Route 89 in Seneca County was shut down due to a crash.
The first alert came in around 5:30 a.m. for an accident that happened on State Route 89 in Seneca Falls.
The closure was initially expected to last three hours between Garden Street Extension and Noble Road.
However, a second alert went out around 8 a.m. indicating that the closure would last two more hours.
