A Yates County man has been charged following a lengthy standoff with police earlier this month, during which he allegedly held a woman captive.
William Morgan, Sr., 63, of Rushville, is accused of assaulting the victim, a resident of the town of Potter, threatening her life, disabling her phone, and preventing her from leaving a Rushville residence on April 3.
The woman managed to escape through a bathroom window at the back of the property. The incident led to a “Shelter in Place” order from the Yates County Sheriff’s Department for residents around Rubin Drive.
Morgan was arrested on Tuesday at Clifton Springs Hospital, where he had been detained since being taken into custody. He now faces charges of criminal mischief, unlawful imprisonment, aggravated harassment, and harassment.
