Hobart and William Smith Colleges have announced the appointment of Bill Woodsen as their new Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. With a vision to empower community members and strengthen the connection between diversity, equity, and inclusion and the institution’s mission, Woodsen brings a wealth of experience in academic administration, management consulting, public service, and Fortune 500 companies.
Woodsen joins HWS from New College of Florida, where he established the Office of Outreach and Inclusive Excellence and managed a Mellon Foundation arts and humanities grant. He also co-authored a regional foundation grant proposal that funded the Access Leadership initiative and supported high-potential, low-income students in the community. Prior to that, Woodsen worked at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, serving as the first Assistant Dean for Community Outreach and leading four graduate business programs.
With degrees from Brown University, Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, the University of Michigan, and the University of Minnesota, Woodsen expressed his excitement to join HWS, acknowledging the existing infrastructure and institutional appreciation for diversity, equity, and inclusion. He aims to build on this foundation and collaborate with the community to further advance the college’s mission.
