Yates legislature split over who to hire as next County Administrator, so Flynn will delay retirement

The Yates County Legislature is split.

That was made strikingly clear this week at a meeting of the legislature, where a 10-4 vote took place, appointing Jessica Mullins to a temporary county administrator assistant position effective May 1.

The move, which was first reported by the Finger Lakes Times this weekend, comes weeks after an 8-3 vote to postpone hiring Scott Schrader, an assistant city manager from Michigan for the job.

Legislators confirmed the fracture between its members over the Mullins-Schrader debate. In fact, Legislator Bonnie Percy told the FLT that she supports a new administrator search altogether.

Now though, the fracture between the legislators has prompted current administrator Nonie Flynn, who recently announced her own campaign for Yates County Legislature, to delay her retirement.

She will now stay in the role through part of the summer to help the transition.
